Web Designers
Littering a dark and dreary road of dated web design, lie the past relics of browser-specific tags, incompatible DOMs and broken CSS support
Today, we must clear our minds of these past practices and move forward with CSS
Web enlightenment has been achieved thanks to the tireless efforts of organizations such as the W3C, WaSP and major browser creators
Relax and meditate on the important lessons of the CSS masters
Learn to use new techniques and skills with renewed life and enthusiasm
"Begin to see with clarity"
Graphic Artists
There is clearly a need for CSS to be taken seriously by graphic artists especially
Excite, inspire, and encourage participation
CSS allows complete and total control over the style of a hypertext document
The best way this can be illustrated is to excite people by demonstrating what can truly be achieved; once the reins are placed in the hands of those able to create beauty from structure
To date, most examples of neat tricks have been demonstrated by structurists and coders
Art Designers have yet to make their mark and bring invigorating ideas to the web
"Be at one with the web"
Participate
CSS skills are necessary for modern web design, but even CSS novices can experiment with basic styles and use them as starting points
Modify the style sheets but not the HTML code
This may seem daunting at first if you’ve never worked this way before, but if you continue to only modify the HTML code the purpose is lost
Why Participate ?
Hitherto, un-tapped inspiration and resources will emerge to which we can all refer;
('Nicking' good ideas)
This is sorely needed; even today, more and more designers are taking the CSS leap forward but not enough have done so yet
The Downside
Unfortunately, designing this way highlights the flaws in the implementation of CSS codes
Different browsers display differently, (even a completely validated CSS code at times), and this becomes maddening when a perfect fix for one browser shows a great flaw in another
'Full browser compliance' is still a pipe dream for the future and so don't expect to come up with pixel-perfect code across every browser platform
